Craniosacral Therapy for Families

I have supported mothers and babies with issues they have experienced before, during and after birth.

These include birth trauma for both the mother and the baby and post-operative treatment where there has been medical intervention.

What normally happens during birth
and how can craniosacral therapy help?

At birth the bones of the cranium are not fully formed. During the birth process they become severely compressed by the force of uterine contractions. Cranial compression usually corrects itself due to the internal dynamics of CranioSacral motion. But sometimes compressive forces overwhelm the system and create CranioSacral imbalances. These can have far reaching physical, emotional and psychological effects.

As well as compression, birth can also imprint hock patterns in the Nervous System and stress patterns in the soft tissues of the body.

Even the easiest birth may leave some disturbances. The use of anesthetics, artificial induction, forceps, ventouse extraction or the sudden pressure changes of Caesarean section can be particularly traumatic.

Older children can also benefit from CranioSacral treatment. There may still be unresolved birth patterns or other issues effecting your child's health and well-being. Accidents, post operative or dental trauma, stress and many other factors also have wide ranging effects that can be resolved by balancing the CranioSacral System.

Mothers During Pregnancy

Craniosacral therapy is good for pregnant women. It helps ease tension and back pain in the body, relaxing the mother and benefiting the unborn child.

It may help mothers feel more connected with their unborn babies, it may assist the mother to prepare for the birth process. It can be of considerable relief from morning sickness, particularly since anti-sickness drugs cannot be taken at this stage of pregnancy.

Treatment

Treatment is non-invasive and can be done without removing clothes or nappies. Using very gentle touch to release restrictions and enhance cranio-sacral motion, the cransio-sacral therapist supports the body to restore health.

By restoring imbalances before they become chronically anchored, cranio-sacral therapy enhances healthy growth and future development. This paves the way for greater self-esteem throughout childhood and later life.
